The Corridor Master Plan was further detailed and refined to foster a more walkable, dynamic activity center along Virginia Avenue.


  • Will help the ATL Airport CIDs begin to transition Virginia Avenue and Bobby Brown Parkway into a community focal point and regional destination.

The design of the signage and wayfinding system provides the AACIDs the opportunity to develop a cohesive brand with a unified visual identity for the area.

The study evaluated smart technology applications will address pedestrian, transit, and vehicle safety and mobility.


  • Improve pedestrian safety, particularly as it relates to missing or inadequate crosswalks.
  • Improve bicyclist safety and mobility by evaluating technologies to compliment the planned bike lanes along the corridor.
  • Evaluate technologies that make transit more competitive, such as transit signal priority.

This study seeks to build on the current conditions and success of the district to further improve mobility and make it easier to live, work and play in the area.


  • Transit in the larger ATL Airport CIDs area should extend the connectivity to more efficiently connect all the destinations in the district.
  • Identify transit needs and recommended transit solutions to better serve the area near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA).

This plan seeks to improve operations and travel time reliability, maintain economic competitiveness of the area, educate partners about best practices and trends, as well as to identify strategic investment opportunities and serve as a foundation for recommendations and proposed improvements.


  • 2013 to 2040 forecasted increase in freight moving through the Atlanta region
  • Percent of jobs held by residents in the study area are in freight-dependent industries (i.e. Restaurants, Retail)
  • HJAIA is among the world’s top 30 gateways for cargo traffic by dollar value. Total weight of cargo passing through the airport is forecasted to increase 113% between 2011 and 2031.

This plan made use of existing conditions analysis and previous studies and plans to prepare a comprehensive trail network across seven communities.


  • For residents: supports ability to bike to schools, jobs, walk to entertainment, shops and food and bike directly to the airport for trips or to watch planes.
  • For travelers: experience the unique character of the local communities during a layover and provide another connection to downtown.
